What is Martin Luther King Day – He was a social activist and Baptist minister who played a key role in the American civil rights from the 1950s- 1968.  Martin King sought equality and human rights for African Americans, the economically disadvantaged and all victims of injustice through peaceful protest. He was the driving force behind watershed events such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the, which helped bring about such landmark legislation as the Civil and voting rights activists. Martin Luther King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 and is remembered each year this  Day, a U.S. federal holiday since 1986.

Who is Martin Luther King?

Martin Luther King Jr. was born on Jan 15, 1929, in Atlanta. He was the second child of Martin Luther King Sr Who is a pastor, and his mother was Alberta Williams King, a former schoolteacher. He had a sister and a brother. His has one older sister Christine and younger brother Alfred Daniel Williams. He grew up in the city’s Sweet Auburn neighborhood, then home to some of the most prominent African Americans in the country.
