2019 Youth Day Holiday

This day is also popularly known Youth day. This youth day in which Africans honor the youth that was ambushed by the apartheid regime police in Soweto on 16 June 1976. Thousands of students went on a protest rally form their schools to Orlando Stadium on June 16, 1976. These students were protesting against an official order which made Afrikaans compulsory in black township schools throughout the country. This protest against the language because the use of local languages was prohibited in these schools whilst. See More Events Discovery day. On another way, the constitution supported that Afrikaans and English be made the official language of the country.

Facts of Youth Day

  • This day is to commemorate the Soweto Uprising of June 16. 1976. Its Happens when students of various Sowetan schools began a protest in the streets of Soweto against Bantu Education -the introduction of the Afrikaans language as a medium of instruction in those schools.

This day is also a people holiday and also a popular event. This day commemorates the courage displayed by students who stood against the apartheid government. It is the day South Africans pay tribute to the youth that was ambushed by the apartheid regime police in Soweto on 16 June 1976. On this day the rally was peaceful with the intention to plead with the government not to make Afrikaans compulsory in Schools.
